Baptist Union of Scotland was born out of local churches realising that, in order to fulfil the commission that Jesus has given to His disciples, it is better to work together than continue alone.
What holds us together in this vision is our acknowledgement of Jesus Christ as Lord and head of the church; and that He communicates to us, through the Holy Spirit, in directing us according to Father’s will. We hold the Bible as central to all that we say and do, through faith in Jesus Christ.
We stress our dependence upon God and interdependence with one another, as we seek to work together in sharing the Gospel with people in our land of Scotland and, in fellowship with other churches that confess Jesus and share in our Principles, seek to reach out in love to all peoples, everywhere, across the world.
The Declaration of Principle of the Baptist Union of Scotland
-
That the Lord Jesus Christ our God and Saviour is the sole and absolute Authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.
-
That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried and rose again the third day.
-
That it is the duty of every disciple to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
