This week in our Be Real series we’re in 1 John 2:1-11, where John reminds us that sin is a daily struggle and Satan seeks to create division, yet we have real hope. Jesus is our advocate and the atoning sacrifice for our sins, calling us to walk in the light in both our relationship with God and with one another. When tensions arise in the church family, we’re urged to respond with patience, humility and love, refusing to let darkness take root and choosing instead to reflect Christ in our relationships.

In this week’s sermon, we continue our journey through 1 John by focusing on 1 John 1:5-10, where John reveals a defining truth about God’s character: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. This powerful image invites us to examine our own lives honestly. As we confront our ongoing battle with sin, we ask a challenging question - have we settled for something less than the life God intends for us? Due to unexpected technical difficulties, we’re unable to provide this week’s sermon.

This week we are considering what a good, healthy friendship is by reflecting on the devotion and loyalty shown between Elijah and Elisha in 2 Kings 2:1-14. How are your friendships in this new season God is calling us into?

We are focused on John 15:1-17 this week where we learn what it means to abide in Christ. We should also be encouraged to persist in remaining and leaning into God during the season we are in at EMBC.

Join us this week as we stay in Thessalonians 5:12-22 to understand that following, respecting and loving our leaders is an important part of living together as a community.

Join us this week as we study the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32 and reflect on how we can relate to the attitudes of the older son, the father and the younger son.

In this sermon we explore the Emmaus Road encounter as a model for how the church is called to love one another in practical, relational and spiritually attentive ways. As Jesus walks with two discouraged disciples, we see a pattern of care that shapes how we, as His body, are meant to walk with each other.

We continue in our focus on Acts 2:42-47 where the early church shows us what happens when a community chooses to love like Jesus: they stay together, they meet each other's needs, they keep Jesus at the heart, and praise with joy. And because of that love-in-action, the witness of the early church was powerful - God changed lives daily.

This week's message invites us to slow down and remember the sacrifice of Jesus - not as an abstract idea, but as the centre of our own lives and faith, just as the early church did with deep devotion. We explore how sin can feel heavy, yet we are reminded that Jesus has already broken its power and opened a way back to God. His sacrifice isn’t distant; it’s the place where our hope, freedom, and identity are rebuilt.
